During a visit to the United States in 1977 as an exchange student, and, on a whim, he kicked a football at Ben Davis High School. The coaches saw what he could do with kicking a football and put him on the high school football team. Morten made such an impression during one high school football season that he was given a scholarship to Michigan State University.

Morten, with his left leg, his dominant leg, starred at Michigan State, setting several conference records, including a sixty-three yarder! In 1981, he was named an All-American. Morten is also a member of the Michigan State University Hall of Fame.
Morten Andersen, nicknamed the “Great Dane”, was a football placekicker in the National Football League for twenty-five seasons. He holds the regular season record for games played, second in field goals, points scored and scored in a record 360 consecutive games in the National Football League. In addition, he is one of only two exclusive place kickers to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and was a member of the all-decade teams of the 80s and 90s.
Morten was named All-Pro in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1992 and 1995. He was named All-NFC 6 times and appeared in 7 Pro Bowls. He is in the NFL Record Book (at the time of his retirement in 2007) for Most Games Played - 382, Most Points Scored - 2,544, Most Consecutive Games Scoring - 360, Most Field Goal Attempts, Career - 709, Most Field Goals - 565, Most Field Goals, 50 or More Yards, Career - 40, Most Field Goals, 50 or More Yards, Season - 8 (1995), Most Field Goals, 50 or More Yards, Game (tied) -3 (vs. New Orleans).
