Unanimously selected to South Bend's first All-City High School Football Team by South Bend News Times and to UPI state 3rd Team 1937; also a starting forward on basketball team; awarded a basketball scholarship to Notre Dame.

While at ND, most celebrated achievement was intercepting an Army pass in 1940, running it back for a 7-0 win in Yankee Stadium.

Drafted during WW II and served two years in the Army.
After football, hosted his own restaurant in Washington, DC; was a sports commentator; played pro basketball for the Baltimore Bullets.

Professional Athletic Background: Played for San Diego Bombers of Pacific Coast Pro Football League 1943; played with Washington Redskins 1944-1946; signed with Los Angeles Rams 1947.

Professional Athletic Honors: Played in many charity games; played in East-West Shrine Game, the Gold Cup Game, Hearst Disabled Vets Game, and LA Times Benefit Game; named to NFL's All-Pro team 1945.
