Roosevelt Barnes is a 1977 graduate of Wayne High School in Fort Wayne. Barnes' athletic career thrived in Fort Wayne. At Wayne High School, Barnes dominated in football, basketball and baseball, becoming the first athlete to earn All-Summit Athletic conference honors in three sports. As a senior in 1976-77, he scored 116 points on the football field and 444 on the basketball court as a guard and forward He finished his high school basketball career with 1,300 points 439 assists and a scholarship to Purdue.

While at Purdue, Barnes played guard for the Boilermakers helping Coach Keady's Boilermakers to an NIT Final 4 appearance in 1979, and a NCAA Final 4 in 1980, and another NIT Final 4 in 1981. Barnes also played baseball for 1 year at Purdue. Barnes decided to stay at Purdue and play football. He managed to secure a starting role on the defensive side of the ball where he secured 32 tackles.
Barnes was drafted in the 10th round by the Detroit Lions in 1981. Barnes would play for the Lions, the Rams and the Colts during his professional football career.
Barnes resides in Fort Wayne, In with his wife, Denetrece.
After retiring from professional football, Barnes attended Law School at the University of Michigan and graduated in 1989. For over 35 years, Barnes has been a leading agent for professional athletes and entertainers.
