Coaching Experience: Head coach Herscher HS football 1934-1940 with record of 32-16; head coach Concordia Teachers College, Concordia, IL, 1940-1942 with record of 11-5; assistant coach Iowa Sea Hawks Pre-flight School 1943-1944; head coach Valparaiso University Crusaders 1946-1967 with 21 year record of 109-82-7 and 16 winning seasons; also, coached basketball, track, golf, and baseball 28 years; in 28 years as VU baseball coach, 355 victories, 15 league championships, and only 4 losing seasons.

Coaching Honors: Played on Valparaiso's first undefeated team in 1932, then coached 2 other undefeated teams at VU in 1950 and 1951 - the only 3 undefeated teams in 62 years of VU football history; won 5 football championships; Coach of the Year 4 times in Indiana Collegiate Conference; Indiana Intercollegiate Conference record of 53-38-2; team played in Cigar Bowl in Tampa, FL.

Outstanding Players Coached: Fred "Fuzzy" Thurston, All-Pro Guard with Green Bay Packers; Joe Pahr, 3-year All-Indiana Conference Back, signed by Philadelpha Athletics pro baseball team; Gordon Helms, quarterback for Cleveland Browns; plus 10 other players signed to professional contracts.
