Scored 17 TDs and kicked 18 extra points for total of 126 points in 1945; All-State running back.

Recruited by legendary coach Bear Bryant to kick extra points, return kicks, and play defensive back; team was 11-1 in 1950; played in Sugar, Orange, and Cotton Bowls; tied a Southeastern Conference record with 17 consecutive extra points in 1949; signed with Pittsburgh Steelers as a punt returner but injuries sustained while serving in the National Guard ended his playing career before it began at the professional level.
Along with members of 1950 National Championship Team, was recognized at half-time of 2004 Kentucky-Mississippi game and received championship ring.
Wife, Betty Mae (deceased); sons, Robert and Jimmy.
