1st team All-State junior and senior years; broke punting, rushing, and touchdown records; All-Area, All-County in four sports - football, basketball, baseball, and track; received a full scholarship to Purdue University.After high school, served in US Navy during WW II.

4-year starter on both offense and defense at PU and U of SF; held records for rushing yards, touchdowns scored, and punting average; held record for longest punt in air in 1948; named to several All-American Teams; also played basketball at U of SF, breaking school record by scoring 45 points in a game.
One of first professional players to also work full-time during his career, doing so with IBM.

Professional Athletic Background: Played offense and defense at linebacker, fullback, and kicker positions for All-American Football League Chicago Hornets 1949; played for Baltimore Colts and led team with 6 interceptions, and set an NFL record for an interception return for a touchdown of 99 yards 1950; played offense and defense for Washington Redskins 1951-1952.
