Lettered 3 years in football; voted Most Efficient Defensive Back senior year; played under Woody Hayes and Ara Parseghian.Entered Army in 1952 and played football at Ft. Eustis, VA, playing with 7 All-Americans; served in Korea 13 months.
Named a Kentucky Colonel 1968; received Sagamore of the Wabash honor 1988; Cradle of Coaches honoree, Miami University, 1995; continued as Brookville HS boys' physical education teacher after retiring from coaching; coached 4 second generation players; Brookville football field, where he coached most of his games, was renamed "Codiano Field" in September, 2005.
Wife, Dorothea "Dottie"; children, Rebecca, Karen, Rachel, and Julie.
Coaching Experience: After Army service, graduate assistant at Miami for one year; coached at Brookville, IN, HS for 25 years, with a record of 142-80-4; had 21 straight wins 1963-1965; retired from football coaching 1980; also served as head track and baseball coach, freshmen basketball coach, and was first wrestling coach at Brookville.

Coaching Honors: Coach of the Year 7 times (when in conference); Conference Champions 7 times (when in conference); 2 undefeated teams (not affiliated with conference) in 1964 and 1965; Indiana High School Coaches Association Award for 20+ years coaching 1975; IFCA 100+ game winner.
