Roger was a four-sport athlete at Bremen, participating in Football, Basketball, Track and Baseball, earning 10 varsity letters. He was the Football MVP in 1971 in addition to being selected all-conference and all-area. In 1972 he was the MVP in Basketball and was selected to the all-sectional and Bi-County team. He was the NLC high-jump champion in 1972. Roger was coached by Hall of Famer, Don Bunge and was a member of the 1970 NLC Championship team.

Dodson was a three-year starter as a defensive back. In 1975, he was the defensive captain. In 1974-75 he earned All-Conference 2nd Team honors, the Butler "Tenacity" award in 74-75. He played for Hall of Fame coach Bill Sylvester and was a member of four conference championship teams, 1972-75. He also earned a letter in baseball.
Roger earned IFCA 100 wins award, IFCA 40 year service award, several county and area coaching honors. Mid-Indiana Conference Champion and Coach of the Year award in 1984 (Indian Creek), Mid-State Conference Champion (Franklin Community). He was IFCA Region 8 Director-Elect in 1990, 1991 Region 8 Director, 1994 Assistant IFCA Clinic Director, 1995 IFCA Clinic Director. Roger had the honor to have been associated with many outstanding student athletes, as well as the privilege to coach alongside many excellent coaches who truly loved the game of football.
Roger and his wife, Kathy have three children, Todd, Brock and Monica.
46 years of coaching experience, 23 of which were as a head coach. He coached at Indian Creek, Franklin Community, Greenfield-Central. His 23 years as an assistant included stops at Indianapolis Roncali, Bremen, Plymouth, Muncie Central, Lawrence North and Franklin Community.
