3-year varsity quarterback, with 2 years as starter; elected 1st Team Quarterback, Twin City All-Conference; 1st Team All-State; selected to play in East-West All-Star game as starting quarterback for East and named East MVP; South Bend Tribune 1953 MVP of Eastern Division of Northern Indiana Conference; as a 4-year swim team member, was on state swimming championship team in 200 yard freestyle relay; in track, was a member of NIC championship 880 yard relay team.

Was drafted into US Army 1955; played quarterback 2 years for 42nd Field Artillery Group Finches in Baumholder, Germany; named to Rhine League All-Star Team as 1st Team QB, 1955-1956; rated 20th at quarterback in All-Army poll that included United States, Europe, and Far East; an injury ended football career; retired after 30 years in the Quality Department of AM General; active in the South Bend Liberty Pigeon Racing Club.
