As a high schooler, Edds was an Indiana All-State Track and Field athlete, finishing 7th in the 110-meter-high hurdles at the 2006 Indiana High School State Track Meet. Edds finished 5th in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2006 Midwest Meet of Champions.

Three-year starter at outside linebacker for the Iowa Hawkeyes and three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. As a senior in 2009, Edds earned All-Big Ten distinction and captained a Hawkeye team that finished the year ranked No. 7 in the final AP Poll and won the 2010 Orange Bowl.
Edds completed his master's degree in Sports Administration from Northwestern University in 2019 and a master's degree in public policy from the University of Chicago in 2022.
A.J. is the son of David and Anne Edds
Edds was drafted in the 4th round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. In addition to Miami, Edds also played for the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars.
