Served in the US Navy during WW II 1944-1946; served on IHSAA first football tournament committee; one of first members of Indiana Football Coaches Association; recipient of Franklin College Alumni Association Achievement Award 1990; honoree of Noah Ellis Scholarship Foundation established in 1990 by his former players; scholarship awarded to Manual High School ($3000) and Perry Meridian ($2000) student athletics; posthumous recipient of Indianapolis Public Schools Special Athletic Award 1993.
First wife, Nina (deceased); second wife, Janet; children with Nina, Mark, Nancy Jo, and Matthew.
Coaching Experience: Assistant football coach at Indianapolis Emmerich Manual High School 1951-1952, then interim while head coach served in Korean War in 1953, returned to assistant role, then became head coach in 1955; resigned football coaching position in 1972 to become athletic director at Perry Meridian High School, retiring in 1989.

Coaching Honors: Coached Mythical State Champion Team 1958, still regarded as one of state's best ever to play in Marion County in 1991 poll by Indianapolis Star-News; 1958 team was undefeated, scoring 442 points and giving up just 38; one of pioneer coaches to start the North-South All-Star Football Game 1966-1967 at Butler University .
