Joey Eloms graduated in 1994 from Concordia Lutheran High School in Ft. Wayne, where he was a track and football stand-out. Twice named to the All-State team, he was a finalist for Mr. Football. He led the SAC in rushing his senior year, scored 28 touchdowns and was named SAC player of the year in 1984.

Eloms went on the play defensive back at Indiana University. He played 36 games. He returned 41 kicks for 929 yards and 26 punts for 227 yards. Over his 4 years at IU, Eloms would intercept 9 passes for 101 yards and 1 touchdown. His senior season, he played both flanker and corner. He would go on to play in the East-West Shrine Game and Blue-Grey All-Star Game.
Eloms was inducted into the Concordia Lutheran Hall of Fame in 2016.
Joey is married to Shara Eloms.
Eloms would go on to play 2 seasons for the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL. He appeared in 5 games over those 2 years and recorded 7 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 1 pass deflection. He started at cornerback for the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe. He recorded 2 interceptions in the 2000 pre-season for the Seahawks before being waived. In 2001, Eloms signed with the Hitman of the XFL out of New York. In the 2001 season, he recorded 23 tackles and 4 interceptions, including 1 for a TD.
