Chad excelled in both football and basketball. On the court, he was invited to the 5-star basketball camp and participated in the AAU Junior Olympics. On the football field he played for Coach Mark Hoffman, Chad was a standout wide receiver who earned All-Conference and All-State honors, as well as an Honorable Mention All-American from USA today. He set a Hoosier Dome record with a 58-yard touchdown reception.
University of Louisville
Chad was heavily recruited by numerous colleges, including Michigan and Michigan State, before ultimately selecting to play for legendary Coach Howard Schnellenberger at the University of Louisville, where he played tight end from 1986 to 1989. During his time at Louisville, Chad earned two-time All-South Team honors, was an Honorable mention All-American, and was named Offensive Team Captain. He also played in both the Blue/Gray All-Star Game and the Japan Bowl All-Star Game.
After football, Chad wrestled in the WWF and the WCW. In 2021, he was inducted into the WCW Power PLant Hall of Fame.
Chad is the son of James and Barbara Fortune and brother to Corey Fortune.
Fortune went on to play professionally in the NFL and the WLAF from 1990 to 1993, playing for the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, Chicago Bears, and the Frankfort Galaxy. With the Galaxy, he was drafted as the 2nd tight end selected overall and led the team in receptions and touchdowns. In 2000, Chad began his career as a driver for Monster Jam Monster Trucks.
