Served as an orthopaedic surgeon at Reid Memorial Hospital, Richmond, from 1963 until retirement; was Reid's Chief of Surgery 1984-1985; member of Indianapolis Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Indiana Orthopaedic Society, American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, and Indianapolis Orthopaedic Club; served as President of Indiana Orthopaedic Society; served as an orthopaedic consultant for Crippled Children Program 1967-1984; served on the board of United Cerebral Palsy of Wayne County 1963-1977; named Physician of the Year by Community Council on Disability Awareness 1989; presented Otis R. Bowen, M.D., Distinguished Leadership Award for exemplary leadership with the George J. Garceau Professorship in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery by the Dean's Council of Indiana University School of Medicine; served as an attending physician for Pan-Am Games in Indianapolis 1987; authored or co-authored books and articles regarding orthopaedic medicine and practices.
Wife, Jean; children, Mark, Karen (Rick), Susan (Ted), David (Riitta), Dan (Becki), and Paul; six grandchildren.
Merit Contributor - Team Physician: In addition to professional career, devoted 29 years to high school football in Indiana, serving 4 years at Indianapolis Cathedral HS with Coach Joe Dezelan (1959-1962) and 25 years (1967-1992) at Richmond HS working with 4 different head coaches, including the legendary Hub Etchison; as one of Indiana's first high school team physicians, attended to needs of RHS players at all home and away games and many times caring for injuries of Richmond's opponents; also performed annual physicals for RHS athletes for 30 years pro bono.
