Served as an Army paratrooper in the Pacific during WW II, earning rank of captain; began his professional career as a family physician in 1954 in Loogootee; opened a practice with his brother, Dr. Thomas Gootee, in 1960 in Jasper.
Wife, Patricia; children, Ed (Fay), Mary Pat (James), Mike (deceased), Marita (Wendy), Maureen (Angela), and David (Mark); 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren
Merit Contributor - Team Physician: Served as team physician for Jasper HS football team for 37 years; was at all home games and traveled with the team on several occasions; stopped by football practice every Wednesday to check on Wildcat players; his concern for and his care of the Wildcat football players contributed greatly to the health and welfare of the players; his dedication helped them maintain their high level of success.
