In 2020, John was inducted into the Evansville Reitz Hall of Fame. He has won numerous Coach of the Year awards, 2001 Courier & Press All-Metro Co-Coach of the Year, 2002, 2003 & 2005 Courier & Press All-Metro Coach of the Year, 2002, 2003, 2005 & 2007 Evansville Downtown Quarterback Club Coach of the Year. In 2007 he was awarded the Griddy's Class 4A Coach of the Year. He was inducted into the Illinois Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
John and his wife, Janet have four children: Nick (who is currently the Head Coach at Gibson Southern) and his wife, Christy, Brittney (Head Girls Basketball Coach at Jasper) and her husband Jared Maners, Kristen and her husband Shawn Madorin, and Derek Hart (Head Coach at Jasper) and his wife Allie. John and Janet have 11 grandchildren.
John Hart has coached for 41 years, twenty-five in the state of Indiana. John has had coaching stints at Edwards County (24-22), Mt. Carmel (101-21), Evansville Reitz (73-17), Warren Central (42-8), Huntley (28-12), and Brownsburg (96-19). John has won State Championships at three different schools, Evansville Reitz in 2007, Warren Central in 2009, and Brownsburg in 2024 & 2025. He has amassed a win-loss record of 364 - 99, a winning percentage of 78.6%. John has 18 IHSAA titles and 11 conference championships.
