Hendryx served as a baseball coach at Carroll for 9 seasons, winning 6 conference championships, before a football career that has seen him win over 230 games in just 28 seasons. Hendryx shifted from baseball to football at Carroll in 1994, a role he would hold until 2004. He won 3 sectionals, 2 regionals, 2 semi-states and a state championship in his second season in 1995. His next coaching stop was at Northwestern, where he served as head coach for 8 seasons. He coached Northwestern to 8 consecutive winning seasons, winning a sectional and 2 conference championships. He served as the HC at Knox from 2015-2020 transforming a losing program into a winner. Knox won 42 games and won the school's first sectional championship in 2019. John led Winamac to a 7-3 record and a sectional championship in his first season, 2020. Winamac was 8-1 in 2022 with a conference championship.
