All-State Quarterback; won both Little and Big State track titles in Javelin; was honored with the Pete Vaughan Award as the college's outstanding athlete senior year.
Became Associate Athletic Director at ISU in 1972; retired due to health in 1983; was on the Board of Directors at the Indiana Football Hall of Fame; inducted into Wabash Hall of Fame and Earlham Sports Hall of Fame; both father, J. Owen, and brother, Stan, made up a highly successful coaching family.
Wife, Florena; sons, Brent, Jerry III, and Scott; three step-children, four grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren.
Coaching Career: Coached high school football at Covington 1955-1959; in 1959, was head football coach at Huntington with a record of 19-0-1; head football coach at Earlham College 1961-1964, with a record of 29-3; head football coach at Indiana State 1966-1972.
Coaching Honors: Named N.C.A.A. District #1 Coach of the Year while at ISU; was also N.C.A.A. District #2 Coach of the Year; coached three undefeated teams and played on one.
