Lettered in football 1960; was asked by U of M staff to return for 5th year, but declined to pursue master's degree and a coaching career.

Coaching Experience: Defensive coordinator at University HS in Ann Arbor, MI, 1961-1962; 8th grade coach at Hobart Junior High School, IN, 1962-1965; defensive coordinator at Hobart High School 1966-1997.
Coaching Honors: Only one losing season in 34 years of coaching; team won over 300 games; won 4 State Championships in 1987, 1989, 1991, and 1993; during his tenure at Hobart, has also been State Runner-up 7 times; won 11 Semi-State Championships, 16 Regional Championships, and 19 consecutive Sectional Championships; had 71 consecutive home game wins, 57 consecutive regular season wins, and 55 consecutive conference wins; had 17 Duneland Conference Championships; as of 2011, Brickies continue to hold 4 defensive championship game team records - fewest rushing yards allowed (1989), fewest yards allowed (1987), fewest first downs allowed (1987), and most interceptions (4 in 1993).
Outstanding Players Coached: Northwestern - Mike Golarz, Scott Golarz, Dave Helding, Tony Karras, and Ted Karras; Western Michigan - Ray Fonceca, Willie Berrios, and Dan Sawochka; Wisconsin - Rob Johnston; Indiana - Bill Manolopoulos; Lousiville - Ron German; Purdue - Mark Drobac; Valparaiso - John Palyok; and many others in Division II and III schools.
