Two varsity football awards 1953, 1954, playing center and linebacker 4 years; member of 1952 co-Big Ten Championship team; winner of Ulysses S. Grant DeBach Award for Scholarship by Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Active in the formation of Indiana Football Coaches Association and served on its first Board of Directors; served as starter and referee at many college track meets; served as a Crawfordsville city councilman 4 years, then elected mayor 1976-1987.
Wife, Gretchen; children, Jerome (Sharon), James, Kurt, Gwen (Dan), and Constance (Jerry); 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
Coaching Experience: Assistant football coach, Lowell HS, 1955-1956; started program and was head football coach, Anderson Highland, 1956-1958; head football coach, Crawfordsville, 1959-1975; career football record of 100-60-7; also coached track and basketball.
Coaching Honors: IFCA Class AA Coach of the Year 1972 for District 3; coached first Sagamore Conference Championship team 1968 and won again 1972.
