As senior captain, led team to 8-1-1 record in Northern Indiana Conference 1951; named to All-Conference and All-State Teams.
Earned a full scholarship; played offensive guard and defensive linebacker; team upset Auburn in 1955 Gator Bowl; selected by team to receive first-ever Civitian Award, an award given annually by teammates to a player they most admire.
Served in US Army, then in Army Reserves while working at US Steel in Gary; coached Sacred Heart football team in La Porte; inducted into La Porte Slicer Football Hall of Fame; owner of a successful steel business in Tennessee.
Professional Athletic Background: Invited to Philadelphia Eagles training camp; head coach of Calumet Steelers 1962-1964.
