3-year letterman as fullback; one of famous Four Horsemen of Notre Dame with Jim Crawley, Harry Stuhldreher, and Don Miller; 1925 All-American; ND 1925 National Champions and Rose Bowl winner over Stanford 27-10.
Served as athletic director at Duquesne and Notre Dame; named first NFL commissioner and served in that capacity 1941-1946; Charter Member and inductee of the College Football Hall of Fame as a player 1951; became a businessman in Chicago after retiring from football.
