Valparaiso University 1942-1943 (WW II interrupted college career.); Northwestern University 1946-1949

First freshman to make All-American Conference football first team 1942 at Valparaiso; was biggest man on team; spent two years in starting lineup with Northwestern as left tackle; played both offense and defense; participated as "kick off" specialist; started in Rose Bowl game in 1949 at tackle against California and won Rose Bowl.
Was a paratrooper attached to Office of Strategic Service during World War II in Southern France; member of Christ Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 94, and Board of Directors of the Porter County Association for Handicapped Children and Adults; member and past president of the Exchange Club of Valparaiso.
Wife, Dorothy; children, Marcia, Kerry, Michael; step-children, Douglas and Diann; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Professional Athletic Background: Signed with Chicago Hornets in All-American League and played August 1949 to September 1949; resigned to coach football.

Coaching Experience: Coached at Froebel until school closed in 1976; continued to teach in Gary school system until his retirement in 1984.

Coaching Honors: John Kyle Award from Gary Jaycees 1976; Gary Old-Timers Athletic Award 1978.
