Star athlete in baseball as catcher and in football as fullback; earned 4 letters in football as a triple threat on gridiron.

All-American in football and All-Big Ten as a catcher.
BSU established the John V. Magnabosco Award for Ball State’s Most Valuable Football Player, noting that the recipient must have displayed the qualities of character and leadership that were important to Magnabosco.
Coaching Experience: Assisted Bloomington HS football team while working on Masters; coached at Clinton HS 4 years with a record of 35-3-2; coached football and track at Ball State Teachers College 1935-1952, with a football record of 68-46-14; retired from coaching at end of 1952 season due to poor health.
Coaching Honors: Won two mythical State Championships at Clinton; guided Ball State Cardinals to their only unbeaten, untied season in 1949, posting an 8-0-0 mark; won three straight Little State track titles 1948-1950.
