As a Freshman at Penn High School Bryan joined a historic football program led by Coach Chris Geesman where he was surrounded by great coaches and great players. In his early years Bryan played on the offensive side of the ball but was recruited by Coach Cory Yeoman to move to the defensive line and never looked back. Bryan was a two-year starter on the "Wild Bunch" as defensive lineman. Bryan excelled as a player as a result of the people that surrounded him at Penn. As a senior, Bryan was awarded Defensive Lineman of the Year in Indiana and was invited to play in the Army All-American Game. Bryan was a team captain at Penn, All-NIC, All-State and played on the 2000 State Championship team.

Bryan was a three-year starter as a defensive end at Iowa. Bryan was blessed to have played for Coach Kirk Ferentz. Coach Ferentz not only taught Bryan how to be a better football player but more importantly, a better man. Coach Chris Doyle made a lifelong impact on Bryan as well. Coach Doyle taught him toughness and sharpened his competitive skills. Bryan a 5-year member of the Iowa Leadership Group, All-Big Ten, both athletically and academically. He played in the Senior Bowl and the Shriner's East - West All-Star games. The accomplishment that Bryan is most proud of during his time at Iowa is that he was voted a two-time Team Captain by his peers.
Bryan married his high school sweetheart, Julie. They have four children: Hadlee, Chase, Grady and Blakely. Bryan and Julie are proud to be a part of the PHM community and are very involved in their church. Their faith is fundamental to who they are and how they live.
Bryan was fortunate enough to have been able to play in the NFL for five seasons. The lessons he learned in high school and college prepared him for playing professionally. Bryan played three seasons for the Baltimore Ravens, and one season with the St. Louis Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs. Bryan has coached at Penn for over 13 years. He is fortunate to be a part of the "Wild Bunch" coaching staff and coaches the defensive line.
