Served in the US Naval Reserves 1950-1953 and the US Army Intelligence 1955-1957; played semi-pro baseball 1951-1962; volunteer coach of Hobart HS place-kickers 1959-1992; team won two state finals; served as elementary teacher, elementary principal, and assistant superintendent of Hobart city schools; was a university supervisor for student teachers for IU Northwest and Purdue Calumet; served as an IHSAA certified official in baseball, basketball, and football 1958-1978.

Merit Contributor - Announcer: Hobart Field announcer for 34 years; had to announce by walking sidelines for several years after a fire burned the old press box, until a new one was constructed; used his officiating background to better inform fans about penalties and enforcement; developed a formatted statistical report for coaches, players, and area sportswriters; until this time, a similar form was still being used to help Hobart players get into colleges with scholarships; retired after 1991 season.
