Mike was a three-sport athlete participating in football, basketball, and track, earning 9 varsity letters. He was selected as “All Conference” in 1971 for football, and Griffith’s “Athlete of the Year” in 1971. Mike was Captain of the football and track teams in 1971. He still holds the 100 Yard Dash and 220 Yard Dash school records.

McClure was awarded an athletic scholarship from Franklin College for football and track and earned 8 varsity letters. He holds the 100 Yard Dash and 220 Yard Dash school records. He played football for and coached with Stuart “Red” Faught, a mastermind of the “Run and Shoot” Offense! Mike played Wingback in the NAIA Play-Off Game for Franklin College in 1972.
As a head coach Mike coached two All-American college quarterbacks, two All-State high school players, numerous All-Conference and All-Region players and three North/South All-Star players. During his tenure at Hanover College as the Offensive Coordinator, he participated in two national playoff games (1984 and 1986). Mike was a two-time NIC “Coach of the Year” recipient at Elkhart Central High School (2003 and 2004). As an assistant at Whiteland Community High School, he participated in 2 sectional championships. Mike was also an Assistant Coach for the Indiana All Stars (South) game in 2012.
Mike and his wife, Teresa, have 2 daughters, Heather (Doug) and Brooke (Matt). They have 7 grandchildren: Austin, Hannah, Riley, Logan, Colton, Avery, and Jaxon.
Football has always been an integral part of Mike’s life. He served as a head football coach for 21 years and 28 years as an assistant. His head coaching experience includes Morristown High School, Franklin College, South Bend Adams High School, Elkhart Central High School, and Franklin Community High School. He was an Assistant Coach at Franklin Community High School (Defensive Coordinator), Hanover College (Offensive Coordinator), Franklin College (Defensive Coordinator), and Whiteland Community High School (Defensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks). Mike feels fortunate to have coached so many talented and committed student/athletes and to have worked with numerous knowledgeable and dedicated coaches in his career.Mike retired from Teaching/Assistant Athletic Director in 2019 but continues to coach the quarterbacks at Franklin Community High School.
