Played on state championship fast pitch softball team 1946; served as vice-president of Calumet Athletic Officials Association and as an observer for the Indiana High School Athletic Association and the Mid-Continent Collegiate Association; Portage Rotary Club Book of Golden Deeds recognition 1990; instrumental in starting Portage Little League; inducted into Indiana Lutheran Basketball Hall of Fame.
First wife, Ruth (deceased); children, Michael (deceased), Bruce (Dee), Paul, Kevin (Susan), and Kathleen (Bill); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; second wife, Dorothy (deceased).
Merit Contributor - Official: Officiated in hundreds of football games over a forty-year period, from Pop Warner Football to the RCA Dome; served as Vice-President of the Calumet Officials Association and the Mid-Collegiate Association; umpired 3 state final baseball tournaments and 10 football sectionals.
Officiating Honors: Received the Ed Wallo Memorial Award for high school officials; named Gary Oldtimers Athletic Association Man of the Year 1990; Outstanding Umpire State of Indiana 1984; inducted into National Lutheran Basketball Hall of Fame 1980, the only official inducted; inducted into Indiana Athletic Schools Association Softball Hall of Fame 1995.
