Wife, Martha (deceased); sons, Tom, Steve (deceased), Mike, Pat (Sandy), Tim (deceased), Jim (Debbie), Ron (Cathy), and Randy (Jeane); daughters Jane (Carl), Sherry (Gary); 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
Coaching Experience: Coached at Centre Township Junior High School 1949-1964, with a record of 62-26-2; also coached basketball, wrestling, track, softball, and baseball; coached at Hamilton Junior High School 1965-1975, with a winning record of 57-11-3; coached at Jackson Middle School 1975-1986, with a winning record of 62-14-1; was football coordinator for the middle school during this time; coached freshman football at South Bend Riley HS 1986-1990, then joined his sons (Ron and Randy) on the varsity coaching staff at Riley; football record was 185-60-6.
Coaching Honors: Riley Wildcats won 5 City Championships in 7 years and became 1st South Bend school to win 5A Sectional Championship in football; received South Bend Community School Corporation "Sam Wegner Award" 1984; first coach honored by Indiana Football Coaches Association with a gold watch in recognition of 50 years of service to young men of South Bend.
