Organized Ohio High School Coaches Association; organized annual Ohio High School All-Star Game; was a long-time member of American Football Coaches Association and Ohio Football Coaches Association; Purdue's Mollenkopf Athletic Center is named in his honor; inducted into the BGSU Athletic Hall of FAme in 1965; an inaugural inductee to Ohio High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame 1970; inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame posthumously in 1988; inducted posthumously into inaugural class of 1994 Purdue Intercollegiate Athletic Hall of Fame.

Coaching Experience: Head coach at Rossford HS in Ohio; head coach at Waite HS in Toledo, OH, 1935-1946; Purdue assistant football coach under Stu Holcomb 1947-1955; Purdue head coach 1956-1969, with a record of 84-39-9, making him the school's most winning coach.

Coaching Honors: Won Toledo City Championship 6 of 11 years and 3 unofficial state titles; record of 10-4 against Notre Dame, 11-2-1 against Indiana, and 9-1-1 in post season All-Star games; won Rose Bowl in 1967 against USC; assistant coach in Blue-Gray Game 1956 and 1957, and head coach 1958-1960; assistant coach in East-West Shrine Game 1961 and in Coaches All-American Game 1962; head coach in Hula Bowl 1967, 1970 and in All-American Bowl 1968.
