Awarded 11 letters in football; All-American Honorable Mention and nation's 3rd Leading Passer 1942; service in US Army interrupted college career; played in the Blue-Gray Game 1945; selected for 1947 College All-Star Game; also played basketball and lacrosse.
Served as DePauw's athletic director from 1972 until retiring in 1987; inducted into DePauw Athletic Hall of Fame, U of M Hall of Fame, and State of Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame; served as National Chairman of NCAA Division III prior to becoming Division III Football Commissioner in 1986.
Professional Athletic Background: Played 3 seasons for Washington Redskins, then served as an assistant coach for Redskins; scout for Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers, and Detroit Lions.
Coaching Experience: Player/head coach of Third Infantry E.T.O.; assistant with Redskins; consulting coach in Mexico and Canadian Professional Football League; head coach University of Maryland 1956-1959; head coach DePauw University 1959-1976.
