After retiring from coaching at BSU in 1970, remained in physical education department; retired from BSU in 1986; inducted into Ball State Athletic Hall of Fame 1989; member of Cardinal Varisty Club.
Wife, Jeanette; children, Rex, Cheryl, and Susie; grandchildren, seven; great-grandchildren, four.
Coaching Experience: Carmel 1950-1952, started football program and led Greyhounds to 8-1-1 record his final season; Rensselaer Central 1953-1956, undefeated in ten games 1954 and two other Bomber squads lost only 2 games a season; Huntington North 1957-1958, led team to 8-1-1 mark 1958; Fort Wayne Northside 1959, his only losing season at 1-7; Marion 1960-1963, led Giants to 8-2 record twice and an NCC Championship; overall high school record 75-48-3; assistant coach Ball State University 1964-1967 and head coach 1968-1970, with an accumulated record of 28-7-2 and head coach record of 15-14; BSU teams played in 2 Grantland Rice Bowls; BSU had an undefeated season 1965; did not have a losing season while at BSU despite having to play such teams as Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan.
Coaching Honors: Coach of the Year while at Carmel; BSU Alumnus Coach of the Year 1958; Central Indiana Conference Coach of the Year 1958; North Central Conference Coach of the Year 1960 and 1963.
