Bob played football and basketball at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, for three years before a job change forced the family to move to Munster, where Bob continued to play football and baseball his senior year. His football coach was Hall of Fame member, John Friend.

While at Notre Dame, Bob played intercollegiate lacrosse.
Bob has worked the state championship game 4 times, and numerous semi-states and regionals. Bob served as the first Northern Vice-President of the Indiana Football Officials Association when it was formed, and remained on its Board of Directors until he retired,
Bob lives in Schererville with his wife, Renee. They have two daughters, Leslie and Bridget.
Bob began officiating football in 1978. In the mid-80s, he assumed the referee and crew chief position, and worked in that capacity for almost 30 seasons. After retiring from on-field officiating at the close of the 2017 season, Bob began working for the IHSAA in their observer program and continues to do so. He spent over 40 years officiating the game of football. During the season, he observes, evaluates, and assists high school officiation crews. He also remains an active clinician for the IFOA, IHSAA and the LCAOA.
