He graduated from Marian High School in 1969, excelling in football under Coach Bob Otolski.
Ross married Linda (Farris) Perri in 1977, and they cherished nearly 43 years of marriage until his passing. Together, they raised three children: Gary McCartney (South Bend, IN), Francesca Marie (Fort Lauderdale, FL), and Frank Rocco II (Edwardsburg, MI).
Ross embarked on his illustrious coaching journey in 1971 at St. Monica’s Catholic grade school, leading football, baseball, and basketball teams to four league championships. He then returned to his alma mater, Marian High School, coaching the Freshman Knights to a flawless 9-0 season. Over four decades, Ross coached at several Michiana high schools including Edwardsburg (as Head Coach), John Glenn, Bremen, South Bend Riley, and Penn (under Indiana Football Hall of Famer Chris Geesman). He concluded his coaching career at Mishawaka High School, working alongside Indiana Football Hall of Famer Bart Curtis.Coach Perri's tenure at Marian High School, under Indiana Football Hall of Famer Reginald Glon, was marked by his role as Defensive Coordinator. Renowned for his tough defensive mindset, he also mentored the secondary players. He played a pivotal role in Marian's first undefeated regular season team since the 1970s and contributed to success across various teams during his tenure. Additionally, he served as an assistant track coach, coaching both boys and girls sprinters.At Riley High School, he continued his multi-sport coaching approach, helping to send multiple athletes to state-level track and field competitions.Ross's accolades include induction into the Marian High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009 and serving as Assistant Coach in the 2011 North/South All-Star game. He contributed significantly as secondary coach for the 2010 Mishawaka Cavemen, who finished 12-1, and also coached in three Sports Fest Metro All-Star games. A former member of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame Committee (St. Joe Chapter), Ross left an indelible mark on Northern Indiana's coaching community. His ability to mentor student-athletes across different activities and levels underscores his pioneering coaching approach. Ross's legacy endures through the coaches and athletes he influenced, a testament to his enduring impact.
