All-American End 1943; All-American Fullback 1945; member of Beta Theta Pi Social Fraternity, Sphinx Club, Blue Key, and Dragon's Head; played on 1945 squad that won IU its first Big Ten title; while at IU, held school records for touchdowns, points, and receptions; still ranks seventh in school history in career touchdowns (23); named All-American prior to serving in World War II and returned to IU, winning All-American honors again.
Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame, Pro Football Hall of Fame 1970, and Helms Foundation Hall of Fame; served in the Army during WW II under General George Patton.
Professional Athletic Background: Drafted by Philadelphia in fifth round and played for Eagles 1947-1955.
