Mike was a 3-year starter and 4-year letterman at center/guard for Penn High School. During his time with the Kingsmen, their record was 51 wins to only 6 losses. He was a starter on the 1999 state runner-up and the 2000 state championship teams. He was a 3-time All-State nominee and 2-time, first team All-NIC. During his senior year, he was named to the Bloomington Herald Big 22 and the IFCA Top 50.

Mike was a 3-year starter while with the Lakers. He was a member of the 2002, 2003, and 2005 NCAA Division II National Championship teams. At GVSU, his teams had a record of 51-4. He was a two-time honorable mention All-GLIAC nominee and was named 1st Team All-Academic All-American by ESPN The Magazine and the National Football Foundation.
Michael and his wife, Tess, have five children: Maddox, Andilyn, Emerlyn, Audra, and Alexa.
Mike graduated from the Indiana School of Dentistry, Indianapolis, IN in 2010 with his Doctor of Dental Surgery. He currently owns his own practice in Wauseon, Ohio. He has been a volunteer football coach for Archbold High School since 2013.
