You would be hard pressed to find anyone in Indiana High School Football that hasn't come into contact with Lance Scheib. Not to overlook the obvious, he was a great player at Warren Central and Purdue. He then went on to coach three different programs in Lebanon, Franklin Central and Noblesville. But Lance's contribution to the Indiana football landscape was much greater than that. Throughout the past 25 years, Lance has organized and directed one of the most successful and impacting initiatives in the state's history with his football camps. SOS Football has reached every corner of the state over the years. Being conducted at literally dozens of campuses over the years, the camp as touched the lives of thousands of young athletes across the state. Before the IHSAA winter and spring open periods, SOS was THE spring football for high schoolers and middle school kids around the state. QB's and WR's used it as a springboard into the summer season. Big kids used it as a tool to get ready for the upcoming season as well in later years. And his 7 on 7 events around the area have become a centralized event that is well attended and directed by Lance. Over the years Lance has continued to grow and nurture this into other ventures and is now running the events for The Gridiron Gang. There is no doubt that Lance and his efforts have positively affected the game in this state in ways that I am not sure can be quantified. But the measurement of his impact has been lasting and profound. His camp has seen hundreds of future college players at all levels, and several that have gone on to play Sundays. Probably the best thing about his approach is the network of coaches that he keeps on an informal staff he employs to work these camps. Coaches come out of hibernation each and every spring to work the camps and help kids. Coaches have a hard time saying no to Lance when he asks. This speaks to the ability that Lance has to foster and develop relationships with others in the profession.
