1958 All-City, All-State, Teen Magazine HS All-American; holds school record for most TD passes caught in a single season; member of Mythical State Champion Football Team; member of 1958 City Champions; received the grant-in-aid scholarship to Purdue; was also All-City and All-Sectional in 1958-1959 in basketball.

Coaching Experience: At Manual HS - freshman coach 1963-1964, line coach and defensive coordinator 1965-1972, head coach 1973-1985, athletic director 1985-1996, volunteer assistant coach 1987-1994 and 2000-2001, and interim head coach 2002; head freshman coach at Franklin Central 2003-2004; started football program at Lutheran High School in 2005 and was head coach at Lutheran 2005-2007; assistant coach at Lutheran 2008 to present; also served as a scout for Butler University 1971-1972 and as an NFL scout for BLESTO.

Coaching Honors: Recipient of Gerald R. Ford All-American Coach Award in 2005; Conference Indiana Undefeated Freshman Football Champs in 2003; Indianapolis PS Athletic Conference Football Coach of the Year in 2002; recipient of the Charles Maas Distinguished Service Award from IIAAA in 1997; recipient of Sagamore of Wabash given by Governor Evan Bayh in 1996; received Indianapolis Old Timers Owen J. Bush Memorial Award 1996; in 1994, the new athletic field at Emmerich Manual HS was officially named Ray Shultz Field for his outstanding commitment at Manual as coach, teacher, and athletic administrator; received IFCA 40 Year Coaching Award in 2007; Indiana District III Athletic Administrator of the Year 1995.

Outstanding Players Coached: Coached 38 players who went on to play college football, 4 North-South All-Stars, and 16 All-State Players.
