Served as athletic director of Mishawaka HS 1934-1952; served as head of the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Safety for the School City of Mishawaka 1952-1960; Mishawaka City School Board changed the Mishawaka's football stadium to "Steele Stadium" in his honor.
Coaching Experience: Taught at Chanute, KS, 1916; PE teacher, football, track, and basketball coach at Chanute, KS, 1919; PE teacher at Mishawaka 1923, adding head football coaching to duties in 1924-1932, with a record of 48-23-8.
Coaching Honors: Was credited for introducing night football to the state of Kansas; mythical State Champions 1925 and 1926; won the Northern Indiana Conference East Division Championship 1930; played before largest crowd ever to see a high school football game at Notre Dame Stadium when undefeated Mishawaka beat undefeated South Bend Central with a score of 6-0 before 30,000 people in 1930.
