Appointed Central's Athletic Director, a position he held for 18 of his 28 years with the Bears while also coaching; later became Coordinator of Physical Education Program for South Bend Community School Corp; inducted into Riley Hall of Fame 1988.
Wife, Jane; children, Jamie, Julie, Martha, John, and Mary; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren.
Coaching Experience: Backfield coach at Bloom HS in Chicago Heights, IL 1946; football coach at South Bend Central for 23 years - backfield coach 1947-1970 and head coach 1952-1968; South Bend LaSalle HS head coach 1970-1972; University of Notre Dame coaching staff 1975-1980; ND football scout 1981-1987.
Coaching Honors: Helped the Central Bears team to mythical state championships 1951, 1958, and 1959; honored by South Bend Chapter of National Foundation Hall of Fame with its 1984 "Contribution to Amateur Football Award;" Notre Dame won 1977 National Championship and defeated Texas 38-10 in 1978 Cotton Bowl Game in Dallas, TX; received Sam Wegner Award.
