Dropped out in 10th grade to work in mines with father; returned to school and graduated at age 21, winning an athletic scholarship to ISU.

Four-sport letterman - football tailback and kicker; baseball pitcher and first baseman; basketball guard; track hurdler and dash.
Was a science teacher at all 3 high schools, then became Dean of Boys, Director of Curriculum, Vice-Principal, and, finally, Principal at Howe; refereed high school and college football and basketball; was a president of Indiana Sports Officials Association; ran rules clinics for IHSAA in football and basketball; Howe named auditorium in his honor; was founder and first sponsor of Indianapolis Federation of Student Councils which established the Indiana Association of Student Councils; served as executive secretary of IASC for 20 years; author and speaker on student councils at state and national levels.
Wife, Eva; daughter, Susan; grandchildren, Steven, Christopher, and Jennifer.
Coaching Experience: Varsity baseball coach at Bicknell 1933-1937; began football program and was first varsity coach at Warren Central HS 1937-1943; junior varsity football coach at Thomas Carr Howe HS 1943-1973.
