Rick was an All-State running back and a player in the 1980 North/South All-Star Game.
Butler University
Rick was a 3-year starter at Butler and helped the Bulldogs to their first NCAA Division II playoff appearance.
Rick finished his coaching career in 2017 (28 years) with a record of 242-107 (69%). His time at Cathedral included 23 years and a record of 221-77 (74%). During his time at Cathedral, his teams won 17 Sectionals, 14 Regionals, 11 Semi-States, 1 State Runner-up, and a state record 10 State Championships. His teams hold the record for most consecutive playoff wins at 32 and carries an overall playoff record of 92-18 (83%). Rick has coached two Mr. Football's, 2000 Odest Shannon and 2013 Terry McLaurin.
After his playing days at Butler were over, Rick became a graduate assistant for the Bulldogs. He then was an assistant coach at Bishop Chatard. Beginning in 1988, Rick became the head coach at Brebeuf before moving to Cathedral High School. He served as Cathedral's head coach in two different stints with 4 years at North Central High School in between.
Rick served the IFCA as Region Director several years as well as over 15 years on the IFCA Coaches Rating/ All-State selection committee. Rick also served as Master Trainer for USA Football, travelling to many locations to help educate younger coaches even as far away as China.
