Stubblefield set the NCAA record for career receptions with 325, a record he held for eight years from 2004-11. His 325 receptions are still a Big Ten record, while he also ranks high in Purdue football history for receiving yards (3,629 – second behind John Standeford’s 3,788) and touchdowns (21 – fifth). The epitome of consistency, Stubblefield never had fewer than 73 receptions or 789 yards during his time in West Lafayette as quarterback Kyle Orton’s favorite target.
The Yakima, Wash., native’s Purdue career got off to a hot start when he led Purdue in receptions (73) as a redshirt freshman to earn Big Ten All-Freshman honors by The Sporting News. In the 2001 Sun Bowl, he had nine catches for a Sun Bowl-record 196 yards. During his sophomore season, he accumulated 77 receptions for 789 yards.
Stubblefield’s junior season saw him earn second-team All-Big Ten honors after nabbing 86 catches for 835 yards and three touchdowns. Stubblefield saved his best for last as he was selected as a team MVP, All-Big Ten, consensus All-American and Biletnikoff Award runner-up in 2004 after a standout senior season that saw him catch 89 passes for 1,095 yards and 16 touchdowns, a Purdue season record. He became the first consensus All-American receiver for Purdue since Bernie Flowers in 1952 and the first player to lead the Big Ten in receptions
two seasons in a row since Ohio State’s David Boston in 1997-98.
Stubblefield was inducted into the Purdue Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015 and named to the 75th Anniversary Sun Bowl team and has
been on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot four times.
After a brief stint in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams and Carolina Panthers and time in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Stubblefield has enjoyed a successful coaching career in the collegiate ranks. Stubblefield served as wide receivers coach at Central Washington,
Illinois State, Central Michigan, New Mexico, Wake Forest, Utah, Air Force, Miami (Florida) and Penn State. He is currently the wide receiver's coach
at the Air Force Academy. He also coached wide receivers for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL in 2016.
During his time at Penn State, Stubblefield coached and mentored 2022 NFL first-round draft pick Jahan Dotson and 2023 sixth-round draft
selection Parker Washington.
