Roy was an outstanding athlete at Concord High School. He earned 3 letters in football, 2 letters in basketball and 4 years in track and field. In track, Roy stood out in the low hurdles, where he qualified for the State Championships. Roy set 4 high school records.
Western Michigan University
Roy lettered all four years at WMU and set a record for most tackles for loss in a single game. That record still stands today. After college, Roy was offered two tryouts, He chose the New York Giants. He played for six weeks, playing in two pre-season games. Roy went on two play 2 seasons with the Ottawa Rough Riders.
Roy was named All-NLC first team on offense, defense and as a punter. He was first team all-state UPI and second team AP. He was awarded the "most receptions" trophy, MVP Defensive Player and name Tri-Captain. He was selected to play in the North/South All-Star Game. Team MVP in 1982, he was named Elkhart Kiwanis "Male Athlete of the Year". Roy was inducted into the Concord Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Elkhart County Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
Roy resides in Kalamazoo, Michigan with his high school sweetheart Jill of 35 years. Together they have 3 daughters, Melissa, Emily and Carly.
