Star fullback and letterman 1928, 1929; nation's second leading collegiate scorer in 1927.
Retired after 36 years at Crispus Attucks, receiving an Appreciation Plaque; after retiring, became assistant trainer at Purdue University; held trainer post 1969-1972; returned to Indianapolis as a physical education instructor at St. Rita's Grade School; Coach Alonzo Watford Youth Football League was started in Indianapolis in 2006 in his memory by his grandson, Darrel, and great-grandson, Daeon; Crispus Attucks football field has been renamed Coach Alonzo Watford Field; inducted into Butler University Athletic Hall of Fame posthumously in 1994.
Wife, Marie; children, Barbara, James, Katherine, Felecia, and Peter; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Coaching Experience: Began teaching career at Crispus Attucks HS, Indianapolis, as a substitute in 1933; became football coach and served 23 years, with a record of 150-33-3; after coaching career ended, served as Attucks Athletic Director.
