Starting center at Yale as freshman 1948; linebacker at MSU 1950-1952, with team losing only one game in those 3 years; National Champions 1952; 3-year letterman and 2 years on first team; as sophomore, was Midwest Lineman of the Week in a 36-33 victory over Notre Dame; Honorable Mention All-American in 1951-1952; twice winner of MSU “Oil Can" award given for most spirit on team; Honorable Mention All-Midwest; intercepted a pass against Purdue in last minutes to help preserve a 14-7 victory, giving MSU an undefeated season and National Championship.
