He was a four-year letter winner in track at Ball State.
Tom was also active in the IFCA, serving as Assistant Coach Representative for Region 5, serving on the membership committee, introducing speakers at the IFCA State Clinic, speaking at the State Clinic, and speaking at region 5 clinics. Tom was chosen as Region 5 Assistant Coach of the Year on three occasions and was selected to be a North Assistant Coach in 2011. He was named the Defensive Coordinator for the North that year alongside Head Coach Bart Curtis.
Tom's family includes three daughters, Amber (David) Amick (children Dillon, Dawson and Abigail), Sara (Aaron) Caudell (children Boston and Bristol) and Bethany (Brandon) Tinkel (children Quinn Massey and Leighton Tinkel).
Tom served his entire 42 years as an educator with the Eastbrook School Corporation, teaching junior high P.E. and Health. Through most of Tom's career, he coached three sports a year, girls' basketball, softball and football. Tom was best known as the defensive coordinator and offensive line coach for Eastbrook football.
