Bunge Day, September 6, 1985, and Bremen HS football field renamed Don J. Bunge Field; served as a US Army paratrooper, 101st Airborne, during WW II.

Coaching Experience: Started football program in Bremen Public School and coached there 33 years, 1952-1985, retiring with a record of 160-102-10.

Coaching Honors: NSC Champions 1958-1959; NLC Champions 1965-1970; IHSAA football playoffs 1979, 1983, and 1984; Bremen was the only Class A School in NLC; record over last 15 years against Class A schools was 50-6; NLC Coach of the Year 1970; District I Coach of the Year 1980; assistant coach of North team for North-South All-Star game 1982.
