US Air Force reserve navigator for over 30 years; visited all 50 states and 30 countries on five continents; president, St. Joseph County Council for Retarded 1963-1969; Honorary Member of Notre Dame Monogram Club; member of Football Writers Association since 1950 and president 1978-1979; inducted into Indiana Sportswriters Hall of Fame and South Bend Community Hall of Fame 1997; organizer and planner for College Football Hall of Fame at King's Island, OH, 1976-1978; charter member/secretary of "Moose Krause Hall of Fame" Chapter which was instrumental in bringing College Football Hall of Fame to South Bend; presented Proclamations and Keys to City of Mishawaka and South Bend in 2000; presented prestigious Indiana Sagamore of Wabash Award by governor in 2000; presented Presidential Proclamation and flag which flew over the White House from Congressman Tim Roemer in 2000.
