Ott attended Butler University where he played for Hall of Fame Coach Bill Sylvester.
In 2005, the Indiana Football Coaches Association (IFCA) recognized Ott by presenting him the "Ken Leffler Memorial Award" for service to the association. In 2015, The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) presented Ott with the "Power of Influence Award", which is the highest award the AFCA presents to a High School Coach throughout the country.
Ott Hurrle has coached at Indianapolis Scecina for 46 years (32 as a Head Coach and 14 as an Assistant to hall of fame coach Ken Leffler). During his tenure at Scecina, Ott has won 2 State Championships, 4 Semi-State Championships, 8 Regional Championships, 12 Sectional Championships and 1 Indianapolis City Championship, while amassing 224 wins.
